How we repair a puncture
There is more than one way to repair a tyre, and the right one depends on what went in and where. So we take a look at the tyre before we tell you what can be done and what it costs.

When a tyre has to be replaced
Sidewall or shoulder
These areas flex as the tyre turns, so a repair there is not safe.
Hole too big
A hole in the tread wider than about 6mm cannot be safely repaired.
Inside damage
If the inside of the tyre is damaged, such as a broken belt, it needs replacing.
Worn or repaired before
A very worn tyre, or one that has been repaired before, may be better replaced. We will say so.
Tyres ordered to your choice
We sell tyres but do not hold stock. We order the tyre you want from a local wholesaler, then fit it and balance the wheel at the workshop. Send us the tyre size or the registration and we will quote first.
We only supply new tyres. Part-worn tyres can be sold legally if they meet strict rules, including at least 2mm of tread across the full width and a PART-WORN marking. TyreSafe and Trading Standards have often found ones that did not meet them. A new tyre starts with about 7 to 8mm of tread, and an illegal tyre can mean a fine of up to £2,500 and 3 penalty points per tyre. TyreSafe: part-worn tyres.

We are at Unit 6, Block 2, Lower Gower Road, Royston SG8 5EA, just off the A505. Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:30pm. Weekends by pre-arranged booking only. If a tyre is flat, do not drive on it to reach us. Fit the spare and call us to book.

How much is a puncture repair?
£25 plus VAT. Bookings are required.
Can every puncture be repaired?
No. Damage in the sidewall or at the edge of the tread, or a large hole, cannot be safely repaired.
Do you keep tyres in stock?
No. We order the tyre you choose from a local wholesaler, then fit and balance it.
How do I check my tread?
Put a 20p coin into the main grooves. If you can see the outer band of the coin, the tread may be close to the legal limit and is worth a check.
Do I need to book?
Yes. Call us or send a request and we will agree a time.
