Cars with the PureTech belt

1.0 and 1.2 PureTech petrol engines from about 2012 into the early 2020s use a belt in oil. Some later engines changed to a chain, and your registration tells us which you have.

What’s included, from £650

OE-spec belt kit

The belt and the matching tensioner parts for the PureTech layout.

Strainer check

The sump comes off and the oil pickup strainer is checked and cleaned of belt debris.

PSA-approved oil

A new filter and 5W-30 to PSA B71 2290. The wrong oil is hard on this belt.

Sump only if needed

A new sump is only fitted if the old one will not seal after cleaning, and it is quoted first.

Water pump extra

The water pump is not driven inside the belt system, so it is an optional extra. Ask us for the price.

Warranty

Our own 12-month / 12,000-mile parts and labour warranty.

Fixed-price quote. The price we quote is fixed. It only goes up if we find something else that needs doing, and we’ll always explain it and get your approval first.

Why some PureTech belts go early

The handbook figure is often around 6 years or 62,000 miles. Cars used for short hops to Baldock, Letchworth or along the A10 rarely get the oil fully hot, so fuel and moisture build up in it and the belt breaks down sooner. We see PureTech cars from this area that need the belt from about 40,000 to 60,000 miles.

Book a check if you hear a rattle from cold, see a glitter in the oil, get an oil pressure warning, lose power, or the engine light comes on. Those can have other causes too, so we look before we quote. It is also worth a check if a past service used a 5W-30 that is not PSA-approved.

How long it takes

Most wet belt jobs take one working day. If the car reaches us before 9am it is usually ready the same afternoon. A Friday job that runs over is finished on the Saturday so you can collect it, and a booked weekend job dropped off by 9am Saturday is done by Sunday.

PureTech cars from both sides of the county line

We see 208s, C3s and Corsas from Royston itself and from Meldreth, Melbourn and Bassingbourn over the Cambridgeshire border. Collection is free within 5 miles of the workshop. From Buntingford, Ashwell or the Letchworth area, ask us about collection when you book.

Questions we get asked

Is every newer PureTech a belt engine?

No. Some later versions use a chain. We check the engine before we order any parts.

Does the oil brand matter?

The approval matters more than the brand. We use 5W-30 that meets PSA B71 2290.

Do you always fit a new sump?

No. Only if the original will not seal after the strainer is cleaned, and we quote it before doing it.

Is the water pump included?

No. It sits outside the belt system, so it is not part of this job. We can add it for an extra charge that we quote first.

Can you collect a 208 or Corsa from Hitchin?

Collection is free within 5 miles of the workshop. From Hitchin, ask us about collection when you book.
