How a regas works

1

Recover

The machine draws out the gas left in the system and weighs it, which shows how much has been lost.

2

Vacuum

The system is held under vacuum. If it won’t hold, there is a leak, and we tell you before adding gas.

3

Recharge

We put back the exact weight of gas and oil the maker specifies.

4

Test

We check the vent temperature and that the compressor is cycling properly.

Which gas does your car use?

R134a

Most cars built before about 2017. Cheaper to recharge.

R1234yf

Most newer cars. The gas costs more, so the regas price is higher. We check which your car uses from the registration and the label under the bonnet.

When a regas isn’t enough

Leaks

Condensers sit at the front of the car and get hit by stones. Pipes and seals also leak with age.

Compressor

If the compressor won’t engage, or is noisy, we test the clutch and the electrics before quoting.

Musty smell

A blocked cabin filter or damp evaporator. A new cabin filter often sorts it, and we tell you if the evaporator needs attention.

Questions we get asked

How often does air con need regassing?

Systems lose a little gas each year. Every two to three years is common if it has started to feel weaker.

Why is my air con blowing warm?

Low gas is the most common cause, but a leak, a compressor fault or an electrical problem can do it too.

How long does a regas take?

About an hour if the system holds vacuum.

Will you regas a system with a leak?

We tell you first. Refilling a leaking system wastes gas, so we quote for the repair.
