How we work

With the car on the lift we check each joint and bush for play, look for leaking shocks and spin the wheels to listen to the bearings. Then we tell you what is worn and what can wait.

Shock absorbers and springs are replaced in axle pairs so the car stays balanced. After steering or suspension work that affects alignment, we advise a tracking check.

Suspension repairs for Royston

The workshop is at Unit 6, Block 2, Lower Gower Road, off the A505 on the north side of Royston. Collection is free within 5 miles of the workshop. From Ashwell, Baldock, Letchworth Garden City, Hitchin or Buntingford, ask us about collection when you book. You are always welcome to drop the car off yourself.

Potholes on the back roads between the villages take their toll on bushes, links and springs. If something has started knocking, book a look before it wears the tyres.

Questions we get asked

Are worn shock absorbers an MOT fail?

A leaking or broken shock absorber is an MOT failure, and worn ones increase stopping distances.

Should shocks be changed in pairs?

Yes. Replacing both on the same axle keeps the handling even.

Can I drive with a noisy wheel bearing?

For a short while, but it will get worse and can eventually fail. Book it in soon.

Do I need tracking after suspension work?

After work on steering or arms that move the wheel, a tracking check is advised.
