Which Fiestas have the wet belt?

Mk7 Fiesta (2012 to 2017): the 1.0 EcoBoost uses a timing belt that runs in the engine oil. This is the main car for this job.

Mk8 Fiesta (2017 to 2023): most use a timing chain for the camshafts, but the oil pump is still driven by a small belt in the oil, and some early cars kept the timing belt. We check from the registration which job yours needs.

The 1.1 non-turbo and the diesels are different engines and are not part of this job.

Why Fiesta belts wear early

Lots of Fiestas around Royston spend their lives on school runs and short trips into town. The engine rarely gets fully warm, so fuel and moisture build up in the oil and the belt rubber breaks down sooner.

Bits of belt end up on the oil pickup strainer. If that blocks, oil pressure drops, which is why we always take the pump off and clean the strainer.

How long it takes

Most wet belt jobs take one working day. If the car reaches us before 9am it is usually ready the same afternoon. A Friday job that runs over is finished on the Saturday so you can collect it, and a booked weekend job dropped off by 9am Saturday is done by Sunday.

For the full detail on the engine, see our Ford 1.0 EcoBoost wet belt page, or go back to wet belt replacement in Royston.

Questions we get asked

Is the water pump included for a Fiesta?

Yes. The new water pump and front case water seal are part of the from £850 price.

My Fiesta is a 2018. Does it have a belt?

Most Mk8 cars use a timing chain with a small oil pump belt in the oil, but a few early ones kept the belt. Send the registration and we will tell you.

My oil light flickers. What should I do?

Use the car as little as possible and call us. A flickering oil light on an EcoBoost can be a blocked strainer.

What about the Fiesta ST?

The 1.5 EcoBoost three-cylinder in the later ST is a different engine. Send the registration and we will check what it needs.
